Legal Barriers to Recovery

During this presentation, you will learn about how disasters can impact you and what you can do to prevent further problems after the disaster. This presentation includes helpful recovery tips for your family during their disaster recovery. Topics covered in this presentation include important documents, renters’ rights, creating a family plan, and Advance Directives, Wills & Trusts. This presentation is about half an hour in length and will be presented by one of our trained disaster professionals.

Hiring a Contractor

Have you ever hired a contractor and then got confused during the process? This happens a lot. During this presentation, you will learn the safe practices that we have put together to help families with hiring contractors. You will learn about spotting a scam, what Oklahoma Law requires, and what your contract should contain. This presentation is about half an hour in length and will be presented by one of our trained disaster professionals.

Renters' Rights

After a disaster strikes, survivors of the disaster are faced with the question of whether they need to pay rent or find a new place to stay due to their home being destroyed from the disaster event. When this happens, landlords are also faced with the question of how to fix their property when not receiving rental payments. In this presentation, you will learn about the eviction process and what to do when you must go to court for an eviction.  This presentation is up to half an hour in length and will be presented by one of our trained disaster professionals.

Wills & Estate Planning

Have you planned for what happens to your belongings after you pass away? Many Oklahomans haven’t planned for this yet. But who needs to make these plans? Do you know how your medical care is going to be handled? With an Advance Directive, you can make those decisions. But what does this mean? In this presentation, you will learn about what a will is, how an advance directive can help you, who is responsible for your stuff after you pass away, and what does it mean to go into a probate process. This presentation can help you if you find yourself caring for another person who is unable to make decisions for themselves and will require additional care after your passing. This presentation is up to one hour in length and will be presented by one of our trained disaster professionals.

Before Disaster Strikes

In this presentation, you will learn how to protect yourself before a disaster strikes. Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma’s Disaster Team has put together tips to help hasten your recovery from a disaster event. Topics covered in this presentation include important documents, insurance, contractors, and title issues.  This presentation is up to half an hour in length and will be presented by one of our trained disaster professionals.
